Does My Pet’s Teeth Need Professional Cleaning?

Posted on March 5, 2023March 8, 2023 By Earl

The dental health of our pets is the most neglected component of their overall health condition. This is attributed to their owners not knowing how to care for their pet’s oral needs properly. Unlike humans, who brush their teeth at least twice a day and go for a dental checkup annually, it is not that simple for our pets. Pet dental health care is not as routine as ours. They require a more specific regimen and frequent professional dental cleaning.

We have to understand that having our pet’s teeth cleaned by a professional is necessary to ensure that optimal levels of oral health are maintained. That’s why bringing them to a veterinary dentist for regular cleaning should be a priority.

Why Does My Pet Need Professional Teeth Cleaning?

Your pet’s teeth have a wide range of purposes than just for eating. These teeth are a valuable tool for them as they use their teeth for grooming, playing, and exploring, not just for eating. If we take care of their teeth, there are a lot of benefits that it can bring to the animals we keep.

What we could do at home for their oral care goes beyond what professionals from an Arlington animal clinic can do for them. A collaborative dental health care process with veterinary dentists would be needed to ensure that they have a better quality of life. These may all start once we understand the value of professional dental cleaning for pets.

Here are some benefits of professional dental cleaning can bring:

Prevents Pain and Discomfort

Dogs and cats do not care what they eat as long as they enjoy it. These may be bone or other hard food items. When they eat these types of food, shards of it may lodge between their teeth, causing pain and discomfort. These are usually hard to pinpoint as we can only observe behavioral changes. If we routinely take them to a veterinary dentist, these specialists can remove these causes and address the pain.

Ensures Better Quality of Life

A lack of vet dentist teeth cleaning for our pets may result in plaque buildup. Over time, this may begin to rot their teeth or gums. When teeth and gums rot, they weaken, and your pet will shed its teeth. A lack of teeth degrades their quality of life since they will have difficulty eating or grooming.

Prevents Disease

Teeth cleaning for cats and dogs can also be a way to prevent diseases. Removing plaque buildup will decrease the chance of bacterial growth, which may lead to bacteremia, a cause of organ failure. This issue often needs extensive medication or animal surgery.

Increases Longevity

An increased lifespan may also be achieved by maintaining great dental health. Our pets develop dental diseases that can bring serious consequences when not addressed quickly. However, these diseases can be prevented with occasional teeth brushing and veterinary dentists’ professional cleaning.

Conclusion

Our pet’s dental health should be a priority. Neglecting this component of their general health can bring serious consequences. They may develop diseases, a decrease in lifespan, and experience discomfort. Bringing them to a veterinary dentist is the best way to provide holistic care. As a pet owner, you are responsible for collaborating with experts to ensure your pet has a great quality of life.
